Whats Wrong in Asking “How to Increase Traffic to Your Blog?”

How to increase web traffic to your blogAsking how to increase traffic to your blog is a common question today. It addresses the most obvious need on a web site who’s traffic is sadly lacking or not moving at all. Its all the more confusing when you are certain you have settled on a great content management systems, have optimized the installation, and thrown your door open for visitors…only to find you’re virtually the only person taking in your site’s “new car smell!”

How to increase traffic to your blog is the wrong question because its not really what you want.

Assuming you are in it for profit, you want to know how can I make money on my blog? And therein, my friends, lies the confusion that we have all felt at one time or another. It doesn’t take thousands of visitors to make money.

Traffic ≠ Money

Traffic + Conversion = Money

Unless you are blogging for the shear love of writing, 100,000 unique visitors alone doesn’t buy you the happiness you are looking for. The conversion I speak of is a sale, or other action (like clicking on a link which generates a lead and a commission for you). Let me give you an analogy I read on another site:

If you own a garage, which is more important: a hundred people stopping-by to talk about your deals or ten people with cars that just stopped running? Those ten are your converting unique visitors!

So, now. Rather than ask how to increase traffic to your blog you should be asking “how can I turn my traffic into cash?”

Believe it or not, that’s a more difficult proposition than getting 100,000 people to visit your site. I will cover what I call the “trinity of Conversion” in another post but broadly speaking its this:

1. Personal Productivity

2. Quality Content

3. Relevant site Market

For now though, I’d like to give you a link to Daniel Scocco’s site “Dailyblogtips.com.” Its got a great article on how to increase traffic to your blog! A word to the wise though, Daniel wrtites some longs posts on occasion and this is one of them. Its deep with good solid information!

I hope this short article was of some benefit! If you like it, please like/tweet me there up on the left. If not, please comment and let me know how I can do better! Thanks!
